Ford Motor Company is going through a transformation of its business and IT by using APIs. As with many large companies there are disparate systems which present many challenges to transforming to an API architecture. These challenges include consolidating data from several regional systems providing essentially the same data, offering a single authentication and authorization mechanism, integrating cloud and internally hosted solutions, handling differences between expected API *-ilities vs the backend systems designed *-ilities, and cloud PaaS solutions while avoiding cloud vendor lock in. This presentation will highlight some of the architecture patterns used to address these challenges.
