There are 3.9 billion email inboxes, calendars, and address books. Between them are trillions of connections, and enough data to run the businesses and lives of nearly everyone on the planet.

At Nylas, we see application developers with thousands of ideas to improve email, and thousands more to improve existing apps with this data. However, email is fraught with 45 years of feature creep, protocol complexities, proprietary implementations, and security concerns we are continuously reminded of. It is a great challenge to make that data securely, easily, and universally available.

In this session we demonstrate how we can unify a vast suite of competing and proprietary mailbox protocols and access them securely through a modern API. This API not only makes mailboxes and order of magnitude easier to access, it also allows for modern security measures, and extended capabilities.

We believe applications are more powerful, contextual, and insightful when they use APIs to integrate email, contact, and calendar data. We believe in the power of APIs to connect the great information centers of the world and strive to see the world’s largest communication base be part of that information flow.
