CANCELLED - PRO TALK: Building Blocks Using Lamden’s API’s
Making a blockchain from scratch is no simple task. In fact, Bitcoin, Litecoin, ZCash, and Dash all share 90% of the same code for this very reason. We’re looking to show people how easy it is to develop and create new custom blockchains and apps. We want to show the full power of Lamden. For this proposed session, we want to dive into Lamden’s unique smart contract application to develop distributed applications which includes blockchain. This technical session will show developers how to build your own blockchain from the ground up with Lamden’s extensive customizable tools written in Python. What is Lamden? Lamden is focused at being the first end-to-end development suite for blockchain applications. We do not focus specifically on smart contracts on a pre-existing system, but rather creating new and custom blockchains and decentralized systems that are not encompassed within the application space of smart contracts. Those who know a thing or two about smart contracts know that there is a limited subset of what they can do. The tools that Lamden is making supersede that subset and expose a development environment wherein any type of decentralized application can be developed. Lamden is an open source Python-based blockchain network and development suite. Our blockchain was written entirely in Python and will be released, for free, to the community near the end of the year. Lamden's goal is to put easy to use blockchain tools in the hands of developers. We’re looking to showcase our emerging technology for a technical workshop at this year’s APIWorld Conference.

PRO TALK: Blockchain Protocols with Social Impact
Great companies aren't here just to make money. They exist to change the world. Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies are making this possible at a never-before-seen scale. This panel discussion will focus on Blockchain protocols that are opening new avenues for social good, and it will highlight how developers are participating and driving new innovation on the protocols. We will discuss the fundamental protocols that the panelists work on, how those protocols contribute to social good, and the token economics that reward participants/developers and innovations to the protocol.

PRO TALK: Designing Blockchain APIs for Edge Computing
Edge computing and blockchain technologies are two information technology trends sweeping into use in today's IT and IOT computing environment. Their need is driven by the need for speed, reliability and security at the edge in applications in fintech, retail, supply chain, factory automation, smart cities, driverless cars etc. In this talk we will examine these needs and how blockchain can support the edge in a cloud free or intermittent cloud environment while maintaining trust and coordination. We will look at the vendors in this providing APIs allowing developers to build new powerful edge centric applications.

PRO TALK: Building a RESTful API for the Ethereum Blockchain
Reductively speaking, the blockchain is basically a linked list. A linked list is not a great web API. Nor is it very efficient for subset searches or filters. In short, it's not anything like the web APIs that we're used to from the past decade plus. Some tools exist: Infura, Etherscan, Web3, Geth, Parity. None of them are REST. None of them work the way that web developers are used to. What do we do about that? Stick the Ethereum blockchain into a relational database and build a RESTful API on top of it!

It's called Eefio. It's free, unthrottled, and open source. It is compatible with Geth and Parity as a backend. It is not JSON RPC. It draws upon Twilio and Stripe as inspiration: humane, readable, support for many programming languages and frameworks, great documentation in multiple human languages. This talk will tell the story of building it. The challenges, opportunities, solutions, and work left to do.
